CONTRIBUTION OF Fe~( 3+) TO SAPPHIRE

It has already proven and is widely accepted that Fe 3+ ion exist in sapphire. The contribution of Fe 3+ to the structure and color of sapphire is discussed. It is shown that there are various states of Fe 3+ ion in sapphire, on which the contribution of the ion to the gem’s color are based.
