Surgical hand antisepsis to reduce surgical site infection

This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: To determine the effect of the surgical scrub compared with no surgical scrub on the postoperative surgical site infection rate. To determine the effect of the duration of surgical scrub on the postoperative surgical site infection rate. To determine the effect of using a brush or nail pick during the surgical scrub on the postoperative surgical site infection rate. To determine the relative effects of different hand antiseptic solutions on postoperative surgical site infection rates. To determine the effects of performing a surgical scrub compared with alcoholic hand rub on the postoperative surgical site infection rate.
