Abstract Synthetically useful O-benzylhydroxylamine can be conveniently prepared in large scale by reaction of N-hydroxyphthalimide and benzyl chloride in phase transfer conditions, followed by acidic hydrolysis of N-benzyloxyphthalimide. The overall yield is over 65%.
