Abstract A host molecule in which two acridine arms are held by an anthraquinone spacer cocrystallizes with TCNQ into a new type of organic donor–acceptor structure consisting both of segregated acceptor (anthraquinone) columns and mixed donor–acceptor columns (acridine–TCNQ) extending in different directions.
