Objective To investigate the expression level of Y box-binding protein 1(YB-1) and its clinical significance in breast cancer. Methods Thirty cases of surgical removal of breast cancer tissue(diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma by postoperative paraffin pathology) and 10 cases of normal breast tissue adjacent to carcinoma were collected during September 2012 to November 2012 in Hebei University Affiliated Hospital. Immunohistochemical staining was performed to detect YB-1 protein levels in breast cancer or adjacent normal breast tissues. Results Immunohistochemical results showed YB-1 protein levels in breast cancer(positive expression rate=80%) were significantly higher than that in adjacent normal breast tissues(P 0.05). Immunohistochemical scores of YB-1 in stage I breast cancer were significantly lower than that in stage Ⅱ(2.6 ± 1.511 vs. 4.2 ±1.182, P0.05). Moreover, YB-1 expression level in breast cancer samples without lymph node metastasis were significant lower than those of breast cancer with lymph node metastasis(2.8 1±15 vs. 5.1± 0.74, P0.05). Conclusion YB-1 expression level increases in breast cancer, which is associated with clinical stages and lymph node metastasis of breast cancer.
