Obtaining high quality protein crystal is one of the bottlenecks of structural determination by X-ray crystallography.Crystallization process of protein is affected by many factors.Temperature is an important factor for protein crystallization,but it does not attract much attention in practical crystallization.The past investigations and recent progresses on the effect of temperature on protein crystallization are reviewed,and the applications of utilizing constant temperature control and changing temperature control are also summarized and discussed.The results show that the temperature control can be used to obtain more crystallization conditions and improve the crystal quality.The temperature control is then proposed as an essential factor to be considered in protein crystallization process.
