Graft copolymerization of itaconic acid onto ramie fibers was studied with ammonium persulfate as initrictor. The effect of parameters such as concerntrations of ammonium persulfate, itaconic acid and H + as well as temperature and reaction time of polymerization on the graft yield is examined. The optimum condition for grafting is ammonium persulfate 3×10 -2 mol·L -1 , itaconic acid 1.80 mol·L -1 , H + 1.0 mol·L -1 , temperature 50 ℃ and time 72 h.In this paper, the adsorption behaviors of the grafted ramie fibers towards metal ions have been investigated.
