Study Design And Hypothesis Testing

Abstract The development of a medical test is a process. At the beginning of the process there are small exploratory studies that seek to identify how best to apply the test and whether or not it has potential for use in practice. At the end of the process there are studies that seek to determine the value of the test when applied in particular populations. In this chapter we first outline the series of research steps involved in developing a test.
