To enhance the construction of traditional Dancheong, a Korean decorative coloring technique, research on traditional materials and techniques is required. To fix pigments on wooden surfaces, a glue sizing treatment and an additional coating on top of the glue layer are essential. The glue type and concentration play crucial roles in the construction of Dancheong. In this study, we evaluated the stability of the paint layers at different glue concentrations. Noerok (celadonite)-painted specimens were prepared using glue concentrations of 3.0%, 6.0%, and 9.0% for the glue sizing treatment and binder, followed by artificial aging and outdoor exposure tests. The paint coating was more stable when the concentration of the glue sizing treatment was higher than that of the binder. Conversely, in the low-concentration glue sizing treatment, the glue layer did not form stably, resulting in a wider delaminated area than that in the high concentration treatment. Moreover, when the concentrations of the glue sizing treatment and binder were the same, a stable paint layer was formed at animal glue concentrations of 6.0% or higher.
