Advances on Preparation of Furfural

Furfural was a natural precursor to furan-based chemicals.However,current industrial furfural production relied on relatively old and inefficient production that hindered its capacity.A critical analysis of past and current progress was provided to enhance furfural production from lignocellulosic biomass.First,important chemical and fuel products derived from the catalytic conversion of furfural were introduced.Then,furfural formation and loss chemistries were explored to find out effective methods to improve furfural yields from pentosans.Finally,relevant commercial and academic technologies reported were selected to improve lignocellulosic furfural production.
