Objective To investigate the expression of High mobility group box 1(HMGB1) in human pancreatic carcinoma and to explore its relationship to differentiation degree, the size, invasion and metastasis of human pancreatic carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemical SABC method was used to detect the expression of HMGB1 in 73 pancreatic cancer tissues,10 juxtacancerous tissues and 6 normal pancreatic tissues. Results The positive expression rates of HMGB1 were 76.7%(56/73) in pancreatic cancer and 20.0%(2/10) in juxtacancerous tissue, showing a significant difference(P0.01).The expression of HMGB1 was markedly correlated to tumor size, invasion and metastasis of pancreatic cancer(P0.01),but had no relationship with the differentiation degree(P0.05).Conclusion The strong expression of HMGB1 in pancreatic cancer might be as one of the parameters for determining tumor invasion, metastasis, and prognosis.
