Abstract In the presence of arenes which are less electron‐rich than benzene the product ration (II)/(III) (standard selectivity) decreases monotonically with the increase in the arenes' ionization potentials and with the decrease in their π‐basicities due to the weaker Cl·/arene π‐complexes.
