Traditionally a great focus of the Brazilian Symposium of Theoretical Chemistry has been on theoretical developments and applications of quantum chemistry both at the semi-empirical and ab initio levels. More recently a central aspect of the area has been the study of the influence of solvent effects on the properties and spectroscopy of molecules in different liquid environments and in a variety of thermodynamic conditions. In this issue some interesting applications of quantum chemistry methods are reported both for the isolated molecules and interacting with a solvent environment.
