Effects of added sugars on the catalysis by cetyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide of the reaction between hydroxide ions and 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene

When glucose, arabinose or fructose are added to the miceller catalysed reaction between 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene and hydroxide ions, the first order rate constant increases, indicating an enhancement of the catalytic action as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide passes through a maximum and then decreases.
