摘要
Summary Digitalization offers the opportunity to amalgamate all the data acquired by a company, transform it into knowledge, and share across the entire exploration and production chain. This is now becoming a focus area as it enables companies to extract value from capital already spent and apply it to new business and new energy workflows. In this paper, we discuss the challenges currently faced when capturing subsurface knowledge. We highlight the importance of having a robust digital ecosystem in place, offering a single interface to better share data and knowledge across the subsurface chain. We showcase an example of knowledge management workflow and discuss the impact of knowledge retention and repurposing to fast-track the assessment of new business and new energy opportunities. To summarize, a key element in improving knowledge management is to have in place a robust ecosystem where data, projects, results, and knowledge are carefully managed, shared and delivered whenever needed. We must not underestimate the value generated when old knowledge is re-purposed to initiate new projects. As an example, retaining oil and gas knowledge can help fast-tracking the assessment of new business or new energy opportunities and this could have a significant impact on reaching energy transition goals.
