The design and manufacture of wind generator are becoming more and more mature, and the cost optimization is getting more important. The V-shaped magnets can effectively increase the magnetic load of the machine which provides the possibility for cost reduction. This paper focuses on the cost reduction of a 3.6 MW permanent magnets synchronous wind generator using V- shaped magnets. A parametric model of the V-shaped magnets rotor is established, and scan the parameters such as the pole opening angle and magnet length to reduce the cost. Simulation results show that the performances of the optimized design meet the requirements. The use of V- shaped magnets instead of Straight-shape magnets can reduce the cost of permanent magnet synchronous wind generator.
