Therapeutic effect of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy on pediatric obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy on pediatric obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods Fifty-eight children with OSAHS underwent the adenoi-dectomy and/or tonsillectomy under general anesthesia.Preoperative and postoperative(6 to 12 months later) parameters of polysomnograph were compared.The follow-up period was 12 to 24 months.Results Neither postoperative acute obstruction in airway nor bleeding or infection occured in all children.Snoring,anischuria and open-mouth breathing were all markedly improved.Patients showed cured in 39 cases(67.23%),greatly improved in 13 cases(22.40%),improved in 6 cases(10.30%),and failed in 0 case.Conclusions Adenoidectomy and/or tonsillectomy was an effective treatment for pediatric OSAHS.
