Ananysis on the value of sialic acid levels in the diagnosis of 120 cases of cancers in nose and throat

Objective To investigate the clinical value of sialic acid levels in diagnosis of cancers in nose and throat.Methods 100 normal controls and 120 patients with benign disease in nose or throat were selected,and 90 patients with cancer in nose or throat were included.The UV method was used to determine the levels of serum sialic acid.Results The sialic acid levels of patients with nose or throat cancer were significantly higher than those of normal controls and patients with benign disease in nose or throat((P0.001).There was no statistical difference between normal controls and patients with benign disease(P0.05).Conclusion Determination of serum SA was valuable in diagnosis of cancer in nose and throat.
