Therapeutic evaluation of four kinds of vaginoplasty

Objective: To provide the basis for choosing operative method to treat congenital absence of vagina by therapeutic evaluation of four different kinds of vaginoplasty. Methods: The clinical data of 67 patients with congenital absence of vagina, who were treated by four kinds of vaginoplasty respectively in our de partment from March 1980 to May 2003, were summed up and analyzed. Results: 31 patients were tr eated with free split-thickness skin graft vaginoplasty. Among them, colpostenosis appeared in 14 patients. The successful rate was 54.8%. 3 patients were treated with pelvic cavity peritoneum vaginoplasty. Five to eight months after operation, the roof of vagina collapsed , and the depth of vagina was only 4~5 cm. Labia minor flap vaginoplasty and sigmoid colon vaginoplasty were employed to tr eat 6 and 27 patients respectively. The reconstructed vagina was ideal, and the sexual life of the married was sati sfactory. Conclusion: Labia minor flap vaginoplasty and sigmoid colon vaginoplasty is ideal operative method to treat c ongenital absence of vagina.
