Shear thickening fluid(STF),which belongs to a non-Newtonian liquid, was prepared with silicon dioxide as dispersed phase and polyethylene glycol(PEG) as dispersed medium. The steady-state rheological property of STF with the solid content of silicon dioxide of 10%,15%,20%,25%,30%,35%,40% and 45% was tested by a rheometer, respectively, and the irreversible property of shear viscosity was analyzed. It was found that with the increase of the shear rate, the viscosity of STF reduces first, but when the shear rate exceeds a certain critical point,STF exhibits fast thickening;and the two scanned curves of STF with the shear rate going from low to high and, high to low are basically overlapped, indicating that STF has the reversibility of shear thickening effect.
