Expression of Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha and Interleukin-1 Beta in Gastric Mucosa of Chronic Gastritis Patients with Spleen-stomach Damp-heat Syndrome and Their Clinical Significance

Objective To observe the expression of tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta(IL-1β) in gastric mucosa of chronic gastritis patients with spleen-stomach damp-heat syndrome and to explore their clinical significance. Methods Seventy-two chronic gastritis patients were enrolled into the study, which involved 57 patients with spleen-stomach damp-heat syndrome and 15 patients with spleen-qi deficiency syndrome. Additionally, 12 healthy volunteers served as the control. The levels of TNF-α and IL-1β in gastric mucosa were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA), and the expression of TNF-α and IL-1β mRNA was determined by real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction( PCR). Results The levels of TNF-α and IL-1β and their mRNA expression in gastric mucosa of patients with spleen-stomach da mp-heat syndrome were higher than those in patients with spleen-qi deficiency syndrome(P0.05 or P0.01), showing certain degrees of positive correlation. Conclusion The increased expression of TNF-α and IL-1β in gastric mucosa may be one aspects of the pathological basis of the occurrence of chronic gastritis patients with spleen-stomach damp-heat syndrome.
