Incidence analysis of esophageal cancer in zhongshan from 1970 to 1999

Objective To analyze the incidence status of esophageal cancer and its trends in Zhognshan in 1970 - 1999, and to provide scientific information for its prevention and treatment in Zhongahan. Methods The incidence data of esophageal cancer in Zhongshan in 1970 - 1999 which came from Zhongshan cancer registry were collected and collated. Such indices as its number of incident cases, crude incidence rate, age-adjusted incidence rate were calculated and analyzed. Results In 1970 - 1999 there were 1.330 new cases of esophageal cancer in Zhongshan, 1,113 of them were male patients and 217 of them female patients. The male world-standardized incidence rales of esophageal cancer in Zhongshan were between 0.76/103 - 15.64/105 and between 0.00/103 - 2.38/103 for female. There were obviously increasing trends for its incidence rates during the perion in Zhongshan. Conclusion The incidence rates of esophageal cancer in Zhongh-san in 1970 - 1999 had showed a remarkably increasing trend. It indicated that its pathogenic factors had increased or enhanced and should be analyzed further to reduce its harms.
