Discussion on the fire protection design of big commercial building

The problems on performance-based fire protection design and evaluation of big commercial building were discussed with 3 examples of engineering case.The suggestions are: Setting sub-safety area to resolve this kind of problems.There should be atria at the entrance of sub-safety area from fire department.The fire compartmentation should be prescribed by code and the area of fire unit which is in the same fire compartment with sub-safety area should be controlled strictly.The refuge passageway as sub-safety area should be kept positive pressure during fire.It was also suggested to enhance the maneuverability of code by modification with the reference of reports of performance-based fire protection design on similar building in ten or more years.
