The Knoevenagel Condensation Induced by Microwave Irradiation in Ionic Liquid Solvents

The reaction rate of Knoevenagel condensation can be dramatically enhanced by microwave irradiating the reaction mixture containing an aldehyde, active methylene compound and glycine, using an ionic liquid 1 butyl 3 methylimidazonium tetrafluoroborate (BF 4) as a solvent. Eight Knoevenagel condensation products were synthesized between 5min～10min in good yields.
