Abstract The internal friction of amorphous Pd77.5Cu6.0Si16.5 (a‐PdCuSi) was measured with a conventional torsion pendulum (Ke torsion pendulum) at increasing temperature, and it was found that there are two internal friction peaks (P1 and P2) near the glasstransition temperature Tg and the crystallization temperature Tx of a‐PdCuSi, respectively. From DSC measurements it was found that the origin of the peak P2 is directly related to crystallization, while the peak P1 may be a relaxing internal friction peak. The sensitivity of the inverted torsion pendulum and the Collette pendulum was discussed. We found that the controversy on the measured results of internal friction on a‐PdCuSi is due to the lower sensitivity of thesetwo pendulums.
