This paper describes the development of fuel-resistance asphalt mixture using a bituminous binder with improved properties to combat the problem of pavement deterioration due to fuel spillage. Laboratory tests were conducted on the bitumen and asphalt mixtures, which were subjected to fuel-resistance tests, in comparison with conventional bitumen. Three types of polymer-modified bitumen were developed and tested for their binder properties and used in standard asphalt mixture. This paper also studied the severity of asphalt mix deterioration due to the types of fuels and filler materials. Results gathered from the laboratory tests show that the polymer-modified bitumen outperformed the conventional binders for basic properties and fuel-resistance performance.
