Making Sense of Life-fold(ing): How does the Ocean Think It Middles?

This article seeks to conceptualise the urgent and emergent dimensions of life-fold(ing) while attempting to figure out how the ocean thinks it middles. The singularities of a life are intentionally dialogised with the actualities of the life found across oceanic and adjacent coastal ecologies so as make the following twofold argument: it is of profound importance to look into the folding–unfolding dynamics of a life to understand the relational co-becomings of the ocean, and an in-depth understanding of the relational co-becoming could help one figure out the conditional co-functionalities of the ocean in actualising the singularities of a life while laying down the ground ready for the emergence of a new earth. This article draws textual references from Sejal Mehta’s Superpowers on the Shore to contextualise the middling of the ocean which performs ‘matter in motion’.
