Evaluation of oxidative damage of ejaculated spermatozoa from Chinese asthenozoospermia patients

Objective:To explore the potential molecular mechanisms of asthenozoospermia.Methods:One hundred and thirteen semen samples of asthenozoospermia patients and 58 semen samples of healthy volunteers were collected.Then sperm and seminal plasma were separated,and their oxidative damages were evaluated.Results:For the samples of asthenozoospermia patients,the T-AOC,SOD-1,T-SOD and GSH all decreased compared with the normal group,however,GST activity was significantly higher.The result of sperm lysate analysis suggested that the activities of SOD-1 and T-SOD of asthenozoospermia patients were significantly lower than the normal group,while the GST activity was similar between the two groups.Conclusion:There is a high possibility that the oxidative damage caused by DJ-1-down-expression in asthenozoospermia patients is one of the molecular mechanisms of asthenozoospermia
