Objective To study the superiority of computer assisted cranioplasty for cranial defect. Methods 20 patients with cranial defect were devided into two groups, computer assisted cranioplasty group and intraoperative cranioplasty group. Each group have 10 cases and the two groups took computer assisted cranioplasty and intraoperative cranioplasty respectively. Then we observed the operation time, satisfaction for cranioplasty and the complication after surgery. Results The mean operation time for computer assisted cranioplasty was 50 mins and the patients were all satisfied to computer assisted cranioplasty. There were 2 cases with headach after surgery and the symptome disappeared after 3 weeks by follow-up.In intraoperative cranioplasty group, the operation time was 90 mins and some of the patients were not satisfied to intraoperative cranioplasty for their flat appearance. There were two cases with subscalp fluidify which delayed the wound healing,1 case with temporal muscular atrophy,1 case with headach after surgery which was disappeared after 1 month. Conclusion Compared the two groups, the computer assisted cranioplasty group satisfied the patients with their cranioplasty, saved operation time and reduced postoperation complication.
