This chapter introduces the use of lacquer in ancient and modern life. It starts by defining lacquerware and briefly introduces lacquer coating process. It then describes the art work uses and industrial uses of lacquer. It finally discusses the properties of lacquer when used as corrosion-protective coating. By the end of the chapter the chrome-free lacquer coating is being tested for application on motorcycles and automobiles as a black antirust coating for nuts and bolts were discussed.
