On the assumption that condensed matter at high pressures and temperatures behaves as an ideal gas, a functional dependence of the adiabatic exponent on the Grüneisen constant was obtained, as well as an equation of state that relates the velocity of the shock front and the mass velocity in the shock wave. The calculated estimates of the rate of unloading for cadmium, tin, aluminum, and iron are given as functions of the mass velocities. A comparison with experimental data shows that such an equation of state sufficiently well describes the behavior of the substance and can be used instead of the conventional semiempirical dependences.
