Objective:To compare the occurrence of the reflux following hysterosapingography (HSG) using metal cannula and balloon catheter. Methods:The images of HSG of 457 cases were analyzed, including 210 cases (46%) using metal cannula and 247 cases (54%) using balloon catheter respectively. Results:The occurrence rate of reflux in HSG using metal cannula and balloon catheter was 11.4% and 18.2% respectively with the difference being significant between them (P0.05).The occurrence rate of three types of the reflux (lymphatic reflux, venous reflux and mixed reflux) in HSG using metal cannula and balloon catheter was 25.0%,20.8%,54.2% and 26.7%,20.0%,53.3%,respectively.Conclusion:Difference of the occurrence of the reflux in HSG using metal cannula and balloon catheter was significant. There was no significant difference between the metal cannula and balloon catheter in the occurrence of three types of the reflux in HSG.The improper operation can increase reflux by using balloon catheter.
