Objective To study the effect of ifenprodil in the treatment of rat bone cancer pain.Methods A bone cancer pain model was produced by injection of Walker 256 sarcoma cells into the tibia medullary cavity of female Wistar rats.To estimate the level of bone cancer pain,the spontaneous pain and mechanical allodynia of pain-related behaviours were counted.Ifenprodil(selective NMDA receptor blocker),ketamine,morphine or MK-801 was injected intraperitoneally on the 15th day after sarcoma cells implantation,and the analgesic effect was compared.Results Morphine produced a significant analgesic effect(P0.05).Ifenprodil produced analgesic effect with an efficacy similar to that of morphine,while MK-801 had only limited analgesic effects.Conclusion The data suggest that selective NMDA antagonist ifenprodil produces an efficient analgesic effect.
