Electrochemical formation of methane, ethylene, and ethane with a bimetallic nickel complex: Is CO2 the source of carbon?

A dinickel complex generates H 2 , CO, CH 4 , C 2 H 4 , and C 2 H 6 during electrochemical CO 2 reduction. Both CO and CH 4 derive from CO 2 , while C 2 H 4 does not, and the origin of C 2 H 6 remains unresolved.
