High level impulse noise generator and its application

Objective We developed a high level generator of impulse noise in order to study its effects on animal or human body. WTHZMethods The instrument was used to test the effects of different impulse duration on degree of auditory injury. Results The hearing loss became more serious with the increase of impulse duration, and the injury in hair cells of cochlea also related to the increase of impulse duration. Conclusion The injury induced by longer duration appeared to be more serious than that induced by shorter one. It suggested that impulse duration more than 100ms should be considered in making the health standard concerning impulse noise.
