Objective To investigate the abnormal change of Smad 4,Smad 6 and Smad 7 in pancreatic cancer and their relationship.Methods 17 cases of pancreatic cancer's tissue and 6 cases of normal pancreatic tissue were examined respectively by semiquantitative RT-PCR to detect the mRNA expression of Smad 4,Smad 6 and Smad 7.Results Smad 4 expression was not detected in 5 cases of pancreatic cancer ,the frequence is 29.4%.The expressive level of Smad 6 and Smad 7 of pancreatic cancer are 1.15±0.51 and 1.44±0.84 respectively.The expressive level of Smad 6 and Smad 7 of normal pancreatic tissue are 0.47±0.18 and 0.39±0.29 respectively .There was statistical difference between them (P0.05). There were no relationship between Smad 4 expression and the expressive level of Smad 6.Smad 7 was the same as Smad 6. Conclusion The frequency of homozygous deletion of Smad 4 is 30% approximately.The deletion has considerable importance in the mechanism of pancreatic cancer .There are overexpression of Smad 6 and Smad 7 in the tissue of pancreatic cancer.The overexpression may be a factor which causes pancreatic cancer.
