Contact angle measurement was applied to study the effect of surface free energy on the easy-to-clean property of ceramic glaze.A Dataphysics OCA-30 contact angle measurement system was used, and the dynamic behavior of oleic acid as soiling agent on ceramic glazes was tracked by its dynamic contact angle record function. The surface free energies and their components for dif- ferent samples were measured by the sessile drop method, and the surface tension and its components of oleic acid were measured by the pendant drop method. The results indicate that for ceramic glazed products, the larger proportion the polar component occupies, the higher surface free energy it bears, and then the lower the tendency for oleic acid to adhere to its surface, and the easier it is to clean. When polar component of ceramic glaze was tested at a value of 46.17 mJ/m 2 ,85.91%of the surface free energy, the work of adhesion for oleic acid onto the glaze was calculated as 2.11 mJ/m 2 ,and oleic acid drops could be removed from it after 98 s under water.
