In recent years, nitrate pollution has attracted wide attention in the world, and the method of biological denitrification is more economic and practical in consideration of the removal of nitrate and reduction of nitrogen removal cost. At present, the denitrification process is mainly realized by heterotrophic denitrification, and carbon source is a major factor affecting the denitrification process as electron donor. When carbon nitrogen ratio in sewage is low, the additional carbon source is needed to improve heterotrophic denitrification rate, to give a guarantee of the normal process of denitrification. Main carbon sources and their influence on denitrification were discussed, which would provide reference for the future to find more economical, effective carbon source.
