Objective To analyze incidence rate and the causing clinical factors of venous thrombosis associated with placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter(PICC)in adult tumor patients. Methods Clinical data of 560adult tumor patients from October 2011to September 2012were analyzed retrospectively. The incidence rate of peripherally inserted central catheter associated thrombosis was observed. The differences of clinical data were analyzed between venous thrombosis patients and no venous thrombosis patients. Results PICC associated thrombosis occurred in 27patients(4.8%).On univariate analysis, vein thrombosis was associated with the initial catheter tip and the tumor types(all P0.05).Extending the period of maintaining catheters did not necessarily increase the incidence of thrombosis. Conclusion Cacumen of peripherally inserted central catheter on the middle-lower segment of superior vena cava is the best position.Without complications, the catheter can be long-term indwelling.
