Modulating properties by regulating the topology of molecular knots has had a considerable impact on the development of molecular nanotopology. In a recent issue of Nature Synthesis, Liu and co-workers report the use of a “nested contra-helices” approach for generating a series of molecular trefoil knots with varied degrees of tightness.
