Millimetre-wave signal generation and harmonic upconversion through PM-IM conversion in chirped fibre gratings

A novel technique for generating and upconverting signals to the millimetre-wave band through phase-to-intensity modulation (PM-IM) conversion in chirped fibre gratings is presented. Experimental results at 28 GHz show an excellent phase noise performance (-87 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz) and BER <10/sup -9/ in QPSK optically upconverted transmissions.
