摘要
Background: Management of hypertension in patients with end stage renal disease receiving dialysis provides a significant challenge for healthcare professionals, one of the which is caused by patient's non-compliance to treatment. Patient's noncompliance to dietary and fluid intake can lead to build up of toxic fluids and metabolic end products in the bloodstream and this leads to an increased morbidity and premature death. The aim of this study is to evaluate the compliance in fluid restriction and dietary recommendations in ESRD patients undergoing routine hemodialysis. Methods: This is a multicenter cross sectional study that took place in 4 hemodialysis clinics in Jakarta from October to December 2016. Compliance was measured using End-Stage Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire (ESRD-AQ). Hypertension is defined as systolic BP ≥140mmHg or diastolic BP ≥90mmHg or taking antihypertensive medications. The data was presented using descriptive statistics. Results: There was a total of 106 patients, out of which 66(62.3%) were male. The mean age of the patients were 52.4(±12.8) years. The median duration of HD was 32(1–216) months. Over the past week, fluid recommendations were followed by 25(23.5%) patients most of the time, 20(18.9%) patients about half of the time, 17(16.0%) patients seldomly and 8(7.5%) none of the time. Over the past week, dietary recommendations were followed by 20(18.9%) patients most of the time, 14(13.2%) patients about half of the time, 22(20.8%) patients seldomly and 6(5.7%) patients none of the time. Conclusion: There is still quite a number of patients not compliant to fluid restrictions and diet recommendations. Physicians need to give more education to the patients inorder to increase the compliance of the patients.
