Objective To explore the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) in the promoter of angiotensin Ⅱ type 1 receptor(AT_1R)gene and hypertension in Mongolian people. Methods On basis of prevalence study,a case-control study with 299 hypertensives and 281 nomotensives was conducted, and the polymorphisms at positions-2?228,-214(213),-153 in the promoter region were detected by restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR/RFLP) and singlestrand conformation polymorphism(PCR/SSCP),χ~2 test was used to analyze the differences of genotype frequencies and allele frequencies between cases and controls. Results The AT_1R genotype distributions were all compatible with Hardy-Weinberg expectations. There were no significant differences to be found between cases and controls for genotype frequencies or allele frequencies at positions-2?228G/A,-214A/C(-213G/C)and-153A/G of AT_1R gene. Conclusion Present study could not ascertain the association between SNPs in the promoter region of AT_1R gene and hypertension in Mongolian people.
