Definition,diagnosis and countermeasures of luteal function and luteal defects

Luteal phase defect ( LPD) is implicated in infertility and recurrent abortion. The various diagnostic methods including basal body temperature,endometrial biopsy,and measurement of progesterone are used to evaluate the corpus luteum function,and usually the methods combined together to diagnosis the LPD. The etiology is multifactorial and usually is related to the hypothalamic-pituitary factors influencing the folliculogenesis and the LH surge,rather than to ovarian factors. Once diagnosed,the treatment options are empiric and those treatment including simulating follicles growth and applying progesterone to support are recommended.
