Antimicrobial Activity of Huangbai Acne Ointment Decoction Against Propionibacterium Acne and Staphylococcus in Vitro

Objective: To observe on antibacterial activity of Huangbai Acne Ointment( 黄白痤疮膏, HBAO) decoction for Propionibacterium acne, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis,and to provide experimental evidence for searching for a kind of compound Chinese medicinal preparation with low side effect and good therapeutic effect on acne. Methods:Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of HBAO decoction to Propionibacterium acne,Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis has been tested using serial dilution method. Results: The MICs of HBAO decoction for Propionibacterium acne,Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis are 125mg/m L,500mg/m L and 125mg/m L, respectively. Conclusion: HBAO decoction has good antibacterial effect on Propionibacterium acne,Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis,which implies HBAO has potential value of clinical treatment for acne.
