The axial pressure and torque occurred during the inserting stage at the friction stir welding(FSW) process of aluminum alloy are the important index of the static qualification for a FSW machine. In order to find a way to reduce the maximum axial pressure and torque at the inserting part, the relationship between the processing parameters and the axial pressure and torque have been investigated. The maximum pressure and torque are occurred at the inserted part.At constant rotational speed by reducing the inserting speed vp or at constant inserting speed vp by increasing the rotational speed both can lead to decrease the maximum axial pressure Pzmax and torque Czmax.Processing parameters indirectly influence the temperature and temper of the welded material by means of heat energy inputting, and as a result influence Pzmax and Czmax.
