Levels of Serum Creatine Kinase,Lactate Dehydrogenase and Their Iso-enzymes in Low Back Pain Patients

Objective To study the levels of serum creatine kinase(CK), lactate dehydrogenase and their iso-enzymes in low back pain patients.Methods 68 patients with low back pain were selected as case group and 70 healthy were defined as control group.Agarose gel electrophoresis,SDS-PAGE and biochemical methods were used to assay the activities of CK,LDH and their iso-enzymes.Results There was significant difference between case group〔(155.93±53.61)IU/L〕 and control group〔(131.42±51.79)IU/L〕 in CK activity(P0.01).The patterns of serum CK iso-enzyme in case group〔(45.43±6.22)IU/L〕were characterized by a significant decrease in CK-MM 1(P0.01).The activity of CK-MM 3〔(22.24±4.77)IU/L〕and the ratio of CK-MM 3/CK-MM 1(0.51±0.13)of case group were significantly higher than those of control group (P0.01).The activity of CK-MM 2 in case group〔(32.34±5.19)IU/L〕was similar to that of the control group〔(30.90±5.30)IU/L〕.No significant difference was seen between two groups in LDH 5,though there was a relative increase in case group.Conclusions The results showed the levels of serum CK,LDH and their iso-enzymes have changed in low back pain patients.It indicated serum CK activity was sensitive to muscle injury.
