Controlled Cationic Polymerization of N-Vinylcarbazol

Cationic polymerization of N-Vinylcarbazol (NVC) was initiated with 1-iodo-1-(2-methylpropyloxy)ethane in the presence of N(n-Bu)4ClO4 and without addition of this activator. Furthermore, 1-chloro-1-(2-methylpropyloxy) ethane, with and without activator has been applied as initiator for NVC. These initiating systems show remarkable differences in activity, which are discussed in detail.
