Rankins of occupational prestige in Indonesia, a non-industrialized nation, are found to correlate highly with prestige rankings reported for six industrialized nations. These results cast doubt on the adequacy of the structuralist position offered by Inkeles and Rossi for identifying the most important determinants of job status. Three other possible explanations for the high correlations are offered.
