摘要
Abstract This article provides an overview of the extensive and diverse inorganic chemistry of fluorine. Key topics are covered, such as the methods used for the formation of element–fluorine bonds with hydrogen fluoride and elemental fluorine. The article includes a general description of the structure and bonding of common fluorine compounds and the various spectroscopic techniques for their characterization. More specific details are provided for the fluoride compounds of boron, and the groups 14–17 elements. New topics such as the means by which carbon–fluorine bonds may be broken and the fluorination of carbon‐based materials such as fullerenes and nanotubes are included in the appropriate sections.
